My First Post: Why I Started
I've had this website and blog for a few months now, and I still haven't written a single blog post. I kept thinking I needed an amazing and inspiring first blog post, but I figured I'd never get around to it if I had such high expectations.
So here it is. My first blog post. Finally. Not as amazing and inspiring as I had originally envisioned, but you gotta start somewhere. May as well start now.
A bit about me: I absolutely love taking pictures and writing. This is brand new information (if you know where this quote is from, we can be best friends), I know I know!
I grew up with my mom taking hundreds of pictures of myself, my sister, and my brother, and even more pictures while we travel. She would put all these photos together in beautiful scrapbooks. I loved, and still love, looking through these scrapbooks and seeing all the memories captures throughout my childhood and our trips. When I was 6 or 7 years old, my mom had the brilliant idea to buy my sister and I disposable cameras whenever we went on vacation so I wouldn’t ask to borrow hers a thousand times. And I believe that is where my love for photography started. Here’s one of my amazing first pictures:
What a born photographer, amiright.
As for the writing, I have my first grade teacher, Ms. Mizzell, to thank for that love. I remember she would make us write in our journals almost everyday, and I LOVED that time. My entries ranged from 3 sentences about playing with my friends to a few pages about some imaginary, made-up story.
Such imagination. Much writing. What talent.
I love writing so much, that I even wrote and illustrated a “book”, titled “The Mystery of the Missing House“. But that can be shared another time. Or never. Probably never. Anyways, I’ve kept a journal since finishing first grade. At one point, I even tried keeping a diary by writing in it everyday, but that was too much pressure. Kind of like having to write this blog post. And my life isn’t nearly as interesting. But I still keep a journal today, 12 years later, where I write whenever I feel the need to sharing the highs and lows of my life, my travels, and anything else going on in my life or in the world.
And while I’m not planning on sharing every little detail of my life, like in my personal journal, I do want to share my work and thoughts. I actually had a blog for two years (and yes, I was so proud of that pun), but I’v been having issues with it for the past 6 or so months. Plus I wanted to start fresh, and have this look a bit more put together.
Hence, this blog was given life to combine my love for photography and writing and sharing.
So I hope you enjoy my website whether you’re here for the photography or writing or both! I’ve put hundreds of hours since March (told you I’ve been putting this blog post off) into creating this and making sure it’s absolutely perfect. Well, as close to perfect as it can be.
